|Hardraw Force is a spectacular waterfall
just outside Hardraw near to Hawes in the Wensleydale region of Yorkshire.
Comprising a single drop of 100 feet from a
rocky overhang, Hardraw Force is claimed to be Britain's highest unbroken
waterfall - at least discounting underground falls.
There is no public footpath to the fall,
the glade leading to the falls is on private ground and accessed via the
Green Dragon Inn through it's car park and then following the footpaths that
run alongside the river through a narrow wooded gorge and after a couple of
hundred yards the water comes into full view in the wooded ravine. It is a
natural amphitheatre and on special events brass bands do get a chance to
play nearby. Every year the Hardraw Scaur Brass Band Contest takes place in
the wooded amphitheatre, usually the second Sunday in September, and has
been taking place since 1976.
