Stockton International Riverside Festival

3rd to 6th August 2017 Stockton on Tees, nr Middlesbrough. 4 days of of light and fire on the river, circus thrills, street theatre, dance, music, a community carnival and so much more.



Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza

4th to 6th August 2017 South Cerney Airfield, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Combines a Steam & Vintage Transport Rally, Country Show and Aircraft Display, with vintage transport from steam engines, classic cars, vintage tractors, industrial trucks etc, working displays, rare breeds, aircraft, trade stands, funfair and arena entertainment.

Taunton Flower Show

4th and 5th August 2017 Vivary Park, Taunton, Somerset. 10am-6pm. As well as Floral marquees and garden traders, the Arena displays include terrier racing, and riding displays, military bands and more.



Nottingham Riverside Festival

4th to 6th August 2017 Victoria Embankment, river Trent, Nottingham. The festival covers a distance of 1 mile along the banks of the river, and includes street theatre, puppets shows, dance workshops, traditional fairground, traction and steam engines, old thyme organs, dragon boat racing and annual charity duck race. Saturday night 10.30pm fireworks.

Whitby Traction Engine Rally

4th to 6th August 2017 Whitby, Yorkshire. Events include steam engines, old time fairground, fairground organs, tractors and static engines, vintage cars, trucks and heavy haulage, modern fairground, army displays and loads more.

04/08/2017 Festival of British Eventing 4th to 6th August 2017 Gatcombe Park, Gloucestershire. 3 day eventing, including dressage, show jumping and cross country. Car parks open from 8am each day. Gatcombe Eventing


National Eisteddfod of Wales

4th to 12th August 2017 A week long Welsh Festival of singing, music and dance including a Welsh Choir competition. This years event is taking place on The Maes near Bodedern, Anglesey LL65 3SS.



Edinburgh Military Tattoo

4th to 26th August 2017 A Daily show outside the walls of Edinburgh Castle - a mixture of marching bands, dance and spectacle.

05/08/2017 Leicester Caribbean Carnival Leicester. A colourful parade through the streets of Leicester as well as 3 music stages including reggae artists, steel bands as well as a funfair and carnival village and entertainment throughout the day. Carnival

5th and 6th August 2017 Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh. 9am-6pm each day. The Scottish truck show and family entertainment.



West Somerset Railway Steam Fayre & Vintage Vehicle Rally

5th and 76th August 2017 Norton Fitzwarren, Somerset. Powerful steam engines, tractors and road rollers, vintage cars and motorcycles, fire engines, buses, commercial and military vehicles will all be in the arena. Horse drawn exhibits also make a visit.

Old Hall, Tatton Park, Cheshire. 12noon-5pm. Vikings take over Tatton's Old hall. Experience battle and domestic life. Try on armour, have a go at archery etc.

British Fireworks Championships Finals

9th and 10th August 2017 The Hoe, Plymouth, Cornwall. The first firing is at around 9pm. The best places to watch are from the Hoe and foreshore areas. 6 finalists produce a 10 minute display each and the winners go on to represent Britain in the International Championships.

NAF International Hartpury Horse Trials

9th to 13th August 2017 Hartpury College, Hartpury, Gloucestershire. Three day eventing event incorporating dressage, cross country and show jumping rounds.



Jersey Battle of Flowers Parade

10th and 11th August 2017 Jersey, Channel Islands. Flower covered floats, musicians, dancers and entertainers parade through the streets. On the second evening from 9pm a Moonlight Parade of flowered covered floats festooned in lights takes place.

Bristol Balloon Fiesta

10th to 13th August 2017 Ashton Court Estate, Bristol. First day opens at midday. Balloon launches are usually at 6am and 6pm Fri-Sun and 6pm on first day, these are subject to weather conditions. There are also arena events and Night Glow and Fireworks displays.

11th and 12th August 2017 The Quarry Park, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Starts 9am. Flower Show, Trade Stands area, Craft marquee, Foodhall, arena programme, Show Jumping, Military bands, Children's area, Firework Finale.

World Pipe Band Championships

11th and 12th August 2017 Glasgow, Scotland. Watch Pipe bands from across the world compete in these championships.

Abernethy Highland Games

Games field, Nethy Bridge, Inverness-shire. 10.30am-5pm. Traditional Highland Games featuring Pipe Bands, Highland Dancing, athletics, heavy events such as tossing the caber and tug of war will also be on display.

Belvoir Firework Champions

Belvoir Castle, Grantham, Lincs. Gates open at 5pm, firework displays start at 9.30pm. 3 firework display teams compete with a 15 minute firework display choreographed to music each.



Military and Flying Machines

12th and 13th August 2017 Chigborough Road, Heybridge, Maldon, Essex CM9 4RE. 10am-5pm. A military vehicle extravaganza of more than 250 military vehicles, re-enactor groups, with over 50 living history displays as well as Flying and static displays of aircraft.

12th and 13th August 2017 Astle Park, Chelford, Cheshire. 10am-5.30pm. Steam Engines, Classic Cars, Fairground organs, military vehicles, old and new funfairs and more.

Portsmouth International Kite Festival

12th and 13th August 2017 Southsea Common, Portsmouth. 10am-5pm. A range of soft inflatable kites and artistic creations from kite fliers all over the world. Skilled team flying by two line fliers and display routines set to music as well as static display kites.

Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival

12th to 2oth August 2017 Kettlewell, Yorkshire. Over 100 life-size scarecrows will be found around the village for 7 days. Each scarecrow is individually made by the local people. There is an adults themed trail and a children’s trail that can be followed.

Fowey Royal Regatta

13th to 19th August 2017 Fowey, Cornwall. A week of events which sees sailing on the water, with races including a raft race, but also a carnival procession, fireworks display, bands, and loads more.

National Allotments Week

14th to 20th August 2017 A week to promote awareness and availability of allotments locally and nationally. Allotment Associations around the UK take part.



Weymouth Carnival and Fireworks

15th and 16th August 2017 Esplanade. Weymouth Seafront, Dorset. A carnival parade and other activities throughout the day capped off with a firework display in the evening.



Eastbourne International Airshow

17th to 20th August 2017 Eastbourne Seafront, Sussex. 10am-6pm each day. View from seats on Western Lawns or views from Beachy Head. Static displays, trade stands and arena demonstrations at Western lawns. Flying displays from the military as well as Civilian aerobatics, wingwalkers and International Military Displays.




18th to 20th August 2017 Egleton Nature Reserve, Rutland Water, Rutland. The largest annual international bird watching and wildlife event.

Northampton Balloon Festival

18th to 20th August 2017 Billing Aquadrome, Great Billing, Northampton. Balloon Flights 6am and 6pm weather permitting, Balloon Glow 9pm Saturday, a selection of stands, stalls and other attractions.

Whitby Regatta

18th to 21st August 2017 Whitby, Yorkshire. A sea regatta including rowing races, yacht racing, Red Arrows, Fireworks, Vintage, Post war, Classic & Sports Car Rally, the Grand Parade of many decorated themed floats, and more.

Race The Train

Tywyn, Mid Wales. Race the Train takes place alongside the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back, covering 14 miles. In order to do this all courses use a mixture of public roads and private land, across multi terrains. The train takes about 1 hour 47 mins for the return journey.

South Ronaldsay Boys Ploughing Match

South Ronaldsay, Orkney, Scotland. This event re-enacts the traditions of the heavy horse ploughing matches, and takes place on the 3rd Saturday of August. Children dress in costumes to replicate the horse in it's finery and the boys plough with miniature ploughs in the sand.

Combined Ops

19th and 20th August 2017 Headcorn Airfield, Maidstone, Kent. A Military and flying weekend including: classic Military and Civilian aircraft, military vehicles, Live Arena Battle-action. Tank and armoured vehicle demonstrations. Living History and Re-enactment.

International Lighthouse Heritage Weekend

19th and 20th August 2017 Many lighthouses and places of associated interest will be open to the public and there will be special events at lighthouses and light vessels around the world.



Aldeburgh Carnival

19th to 21st August 2017 Aldeburgh, Suffolk. On the Monday a traditional carnival parade is followed in the evening with a Military Band marching in the High Street before leading the Chinese Lantern Procession down to the beach for a Firework Display. Other events over the 3 days include swimming in the sea, fun fair, Samba dancers, military band and more….

19th to 25th August 2017 Whitby, Yorkshire. Many events take place throughout Whitby during the course of the week including workshops, concerts, street entertainment, and loads more.

24th and 25th August 2017 West Greensward, Clacton Seafront, Essex. 11am-5pm. Free air display with vintage and jet fly-pasts and ground displays.

Dartmouth Royal Regatta

24th to 26th August 2017 Dartmouth Harbour, Devon. Sailing and Rowing events combined with air displays and fireworks. There will also be events on the water including rowing and sailing, Tall Ships and loads more.

24th to 26th August 2017 The Stadium, Dunoon, Argyll. A mix of Highland Dancing, pipe bands, wrestling, heavy athletics, solo piping, the ceilidh tent, and competitions such as the Caber Tossing, Scottish Hammer Throw and the Shot Putting the Cowal Stone.

Blair Horse Trials and Country Fair

24th to 27th August 2017 Blair Castle, Perthshire. An international 3 day eventing event alongside a Country Fair. As well as the dressage, show jumping and cross country events, there will also be other countryside events and 200 trade stands in the shopping village.

The Great Dorset Steam Fair

24th to 28th August 2017 Southdown, Tarrant Hinton, Blandford Forum, Dorset. Postcode for satnav DT11 8JA. Gates open at 8am, Car park at 7am. The largest steam event in the UK includes Steam engines of all types, Fairground Organs, vintage cars, bikes, commercial vehicles, tractor pulling, heavy horses, vintage collections, rural crafts, fairground, nightlife and music.

25th to 27th August 2017 Rutland Showground LE15 7TW. 10am-5:30pm. Street Rod cars showing off their stuff in Ipswich, public day is the Sunday.

Island Steam Show - Isle of Wight

25th to 28th August 2017 Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Havenstreet. 10am-6pm. Annual steam show including steam train rides, vehicle displays, fairground, birds of prey displays, family entertainment and more.

Patterdale Dog Day and Sheep Dog Trials

King George V Playing Field, Patterdale, Cumbria. 8.30am-5.30pm. A traditional country show with Open Sheep Dog Trails, other dog shows, Fell Race, Craft and Trade Stands.

International Scooter Rally and Custom Show

Smallbrooke Stadium, Ryde, Isle of Wight. The biggest scooter event, with the round the Island ride-out on the Sunday afternoon. Other highlights include a custom scooter show and various forms of live entertainment.

Saddleworth Rushcart Weekend

26th and 27th August 2017 Saddleworth, West Yorks. A cart laden with rushes, from the moors, is pulled by 80-100 morris men, around the area stopping at local pubs, for a bit of dancing. Another 30-40 act as the brakes. A new front piece is designed each year.

26th and 27th August 2017 John Hastie Park, Strathaven, Scotland. An international hot air ballooning event, the only one of its kind in Scotland. A Free event.

International Bat Night

26th and 27th August 2017 There are 16 species of bat in the UK, two are endangered and nine are threatened. During this weekend you are encouraged to see and hear bats in their natural environment by taking part in a range of events organised by local bat groups, wildlife trusts, countryside rangers etc.

Includes The English Open Chainsaw Carving Competition, Falconry village, Dog zone with various events on show, Horse demonstrations including Scurry Driving and Side Saddle work, Field Sports area, a craft village and more.

Military Odyssey

26th to 28th August 2017 Kent Showground, Detling, Kent - Gates open at 9.30am. A living history spectacular through 2000 years of history, where living history and over 4,000 re-enactors bring the ancient Greeks, Romans, medieval knights, historic battles, and more to life. Also over 250 trade stalls and craftsman of all types.


26/08/2017 Festival of Water 26th to 28th August 2017 Ilkestone, Derbyshire. Over 100 boats will be moored on the Erewash Canal. As well as boats there will be other attractions on shore. Water Festival

Notting Hill Carnival

26th to 28th August 2017 Notting Hill, London W11. 12noon to 7pm both days. FREE colourful street festival with over 50,000 active participants, Over 40,000 volunteers and over 1 million carnival revellers attend the two days. Parades, music, food and so much more. Main event is on Monday.



Grasmere Sports and Show

The Show Field, Stock Lane, Grasmere, Cumbria LA22 9SL. Starts 10am. Activities include Cumberland Wrestling, Guides Races, hound Trails, Dog Shows, Mountain Biking and more.

Little Gransden, Cambridgeshire. A family Air and Vintage show includes 4 hours of vintage and aerobatic flying displays and a vintage, veteran and classic vehicle rally, plus other attractions.

Bog Snorkelling Triathlon

11am start. A 7.5 mile run, followed by 2 lengths of the peat bog and then a 19 mile mountain bike ride. Entrants can be individuals or 2/3 person relay teams

Uffington White Horse Show

27th and 28th August 2017 A 2 day country show located in fields overlooked by the Uffington White Horse, between Uffington and Kingston Lisle nr Fawler. Includes attractions such as Historic vehicles, Engines and Tractors, Heavy Horses, animal demonstrations, entertainment and pageants.

Shrewsbury Steam Rally

27th and 28th August 2017 Onslow Park, Shrewbury, Shropshire. 9.30am-5pm each day. Traction engines, steam rollers and working heavy horses. Over 1,000 exhibits including olde time fair, fairground organs, birds of prey, miniature steam engines, craft marquee and trade stands.

Football in the River

Bourton on the Water, Gloucestershire. Two local six-a-side teams play football in the River Windrush. The game is all over in 30 minutes, but be warned if you plan to get close to the action you could get wet, the aim of the game is to get as many goals as possible and to get the crowd as wet as possible.

28/08/2017 Classic Car Show Polegrove Recreation Ground, West Parade, Bexhill on Sea, Sussex. 10am-5pm. Classic and custom cars, trade stands and crafts. Classic Cars


World Gravy Wrestling Championship

The Rose & Bowl Inn, Bacup, Rossendale, Lancashire. 12:30pm to 5pm. Teams compete for the title, slip and slide about in luke-warm gravy. Team members win points for pinning the opposition down in the gravy. Teams and individuals take part.

Sandown Illuminated Carnival

Sandown, Isle of Wight. Starts 9pm. One of a number of summer illuminated carnivals that take place on the Isle of Wight during August.



Bournemouth Air Festival

31st August to 3rd September 2017 Bournemouth Seafront, Dorset. Amazing air displays, sea displays, interactive static displays, fireworks, fun attractions, music and live entertainment. Taking place on the seafront, between Bournemouth and Boscombe Pier.
