Henley Ploughing Match

Bishopsland, Dunsden. Starts at 9.15am. Heavy horse and vintage ploughing, reversible, conventional and track ploughing, Ferret and Terrier Racing, Trailer rides, Trade and Craft stands. Also Heavy Horse Village - 4 working pairs, horse logging demonstration and working dray.

Nottingham Goose Fair

4th to 8th October 2017 Forest Recreation Ground, Nottingham. Biggest travelling fair in Europe with 500 attractions including white knuckle rides, crafts marquee, market stalls, and food.

05/10/2017 Light Night Leeds 5th and 6th October 2017. 6pm-11pm. Merrion Gardens, Leeds. The first night there is a lantern parade, light night rid and light night art run plus 90 giant glowing dandelions. On the Friday showcases The Falls a 100ft digital waterfall on the Queens Hotel. Banbury Hobby Horse and Folk Festival

6th to 8th October 2017. Banbury, Oxon. 1pm. A procession from the Town Hall to Peoples Park via the High St and Banbury Cross. Banbury's Hobby Horse Festival features everything from Morris dancing and tours to theatrical performances, hobby horse races and processions.



Festival of Fairground Organs

7th and 8th October 2017 Milton Keynes Museum, Wolverton, Milton Keynes, Bucks. 11am-4.30pm. Hand turned organs, fairground organs and model steam engines are part of the display.

Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championships

Carrbridge, Inverness-shire. 10.30am-4pm. The World Porridge Making Championship procession led by a pipe band from Old Bridge to the Village Hall takes place at 11.30am with the competition starting at 12.15pm with prize giving presentations at 3pm. Other activities during the day include craft stalls, product tasting, cookery demonstrations, live music and street entertainment.

Marlborough Mop Fairs

7th and 14th October 2017 High Street, Marlborough, Wiltshire. Now a fun fair, but originally was a hiring fair for people looking for work and employers looking for staff. They are thought to have been held for over 250 years.

The Autumn Fair

East of England Showground, Peterborough. Gates open at 8am. A Food and Country Show incorporating the Wisbech Shire Horse Show, a dog show, rabbit championship show, fair ground, heritage vehicles, food and country shopping opportunities, and more.

World Conker Championships

Shuckburgh Arms, Southwick, Near Oundle, Northamptonshire. 10:30am-3.30pm Registration at 9.30am. Many competitors take park from many different nationalities to play conkers and raise money for charity.




Tavistock Goose Fair

Tavistock Livestock Centre, Tavistock, Devon. Traditional town fair, dating back to the 12th century, with traders, fairground rides and livestock market all day.

Weston Beach Race

13th to 15th October 2017 Weston Super Mare Beach, Somerset. Largest off road motorcycle race featuring international solo riders, sidecars and quad riders.

Railway in Wartime

13th to 165th October 20167 North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Yorkshire. They turn the clocks back to Wartime Britain with entertainers, street parades, vehicle displays and re-enactments along the railway helping to bring back the nostalgia of the period.

Alwinton Border Shepherds Show

Alwinton, Northumberland. Sheep dog trials, Cumberland and Westmoreland Wrestling, Stick Dressing, Pipe Band Display, fell racing, Trade Stands, Industrial and Horticultural Exhibitions and more.

Hastings Bonfire Night

Hastings, Sussex. 7:15pm a torchlit procession starts in Hastings Old Town, then moves along the sea front to the New Town and the beach opposite Pelham Place for a large bonfire and firework display at 9pm.

14/10/2017 Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show 14th and 15th October 2017 Staffordshire County Showground, Stafford. The biggest of its kind in the world. Live action with classic racers, Bonhams Autumn Sale, trade and auto jumble including celebrity bikers. Bike Show


British National Ploughing Championships

14th and 15th October 2017 Bishops Lydeard, nr Taunton, Somerset 9am-5.30pm each day. Free parking. As well as horse ploughing championships and tractor ploughing, there will be machinery demonstrations, working horses on display, rural craft displays, static displays, steam ploughing engines, trade stands.....

Showman’s Show

18th and 19th October 2017 Newbury Showground, Chieveley, Berkshire. An exhibition of products, services and entertainment for the outdoor and special events world. As well as exhibitors there will also be animal displays, bands and music, fireworks, fun fairs, arena displays and loads more.

Countryside Live

21st and 22nd October 2017 Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, Yorkshire. 9am-5pm. Events include Horsemanship Masterclasses, Equine Classes - ridden and in-hand, Cattle, Sheep & Pigs, Pigeons & Poultry, Dog Agility, Local and Regional Food, Fruit, Vegetable & Flower Shows, and shopping galore.

October Plenty

Bankside outside Shakespear's Globe, London starts at 12noon. A procession including the Corn Queen, Hobby Horse and Berry Man (a variant of the traditional Green Man) will lead people to Borough Market, where there is also a special Apple Day Food Fair. There is also a performance of a short 16th century play.

Weymouth Beach Motocross

Weymouth Seafront, Dorset. Practice sessions start at 12noon, followed by over 300 riders from all over England taking part in races on machines from 125cc to 500cc.

23rd to 29th October 2017 National Tramway Museum, Crich Tramway Village, nr Matlock, Derbyshire. A chance to ride the trams in the dark, with special lighting effects and activities.



Robin Hood Pageant

27th to 29th October 2017 Nottingham Castle, Friar Lane, Nottingham. 10.30am to 5pm. A celebration of the legend of Robin Hood over the weekend. With jousting, medieval games and horsemanship, parades, falconry, living history encampment, and traditional period crafts from the time. New Night Time Joust 6:30pm-8:30pm



Scottish Ploughing Championships

28th and 29th October 2017 Spreaderhill Farm, Crimond, Fraserburgh AB43 8RR. Ploughing is from 9.30am-2pm. The winners from this match go on to compete in the Nationals.

Derry Halloween Carnival

28th to 31st October 2017 Derry City, Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The final day from 7pm the Carnival parade is at Queens Quay, and ends with a firework display over the River Foyle.

British Summer Time ends. Clocks go back one hour.


30/10/2017 World Championship Lawn Mower Racing 30th and 31st October 2017 Bucks Green Horsham, Sussex RH12 3BU. Taking place over two days, each of 4 groups have their own championship through a series of heats with all points counting and culminating in a World Champion. BLMRA



Also celebrated on this day is Samhain, a Celtic festival representing the beginning of the Celtic New Year. Halloween originates from this festival.
