Wildlife Photography In September
September Diary
Your First Visit
September is Heritage month with many places opening their doors for free. In England and Wales it takes place on one weekend, in Scotland they have different properties open over 4 different weekends. There is also an Open House London weekend when buildings of all types and period open up their doors for free. Some of the buildings open during these open periods are not normally open to the public. Make the most of this time to see the immaculate heritage we have in the UK and get to appreciate the craftsmanship of the past. We have a very good Heritage section, where you can get details and see photographs of those we have explored. Our Gallery also has a number of Castles, Abbeys, Living History, Roman Forts, and Historic Houses with lots of photos in each one.

You may have seen in the National news that the street artist 'Banksy' has opened a new temporary art exhibition in Weston Super Mare, called Dismaland. It not only contains some of his work but also works of 58 other international artists including Damian Hirst. It started on the 22nd August and is running for 5 weeks only finishing on the 27th of this month. It has a limited capacity of 2,000 visitors so is a ticketed event, with a low ticket price of £3. There is likely to be lots of queuing involved, so patience is a virtue. To cope with the numbers they are running the exhibition daily from 11am-11pm, so evening visits will be an illuminated event.

The days are starting to get shorter, so as well as daylight photography its now possible to do some night time photography without having to stay out late. Blackpool Illuminations, start again this month, also the Ryde Illuminated Carnival on the Isle of Wight and the Kendal Torchlight Parade are good examples of challenging night time photography.

Make the most this month of the many events taking place and places still open, before some close their doors for the winter months.

What's New and Changed
Places Visited in the Last Month

Charlcote Park, Wellesbourne, Warwick, Warwickshire. A National Trust property in the Warwickshire Countryside where you can picnic and explore the grounds and home of the Lucy family. You enter through a Tudor gatehouse into a formal garden leading to the mansion house, where you can explore the main hall, dining room, billiard room etc on the ground floor and then ascending a circular tower staircase enter some rooms on the first floor before going down the main house staircase back into the main hall. Back outside you get access to the kitchens and servants hall, and in separate buildings a laundry, brewhouse and small carriage collection. You can explore and walk the grounds which have the Rivers Dene and Avon running through them and get fairly up close to the fallow deer (this time of year the males have their antlers) and Jacob sheep. Outside the grounds you can get access to the local church which was rebuilt in the Victorian era and has the tombs of the Lucy family inside.

The Par Tarre Garden at the back of Charlcote Park, to the left is one of the Rivers.

We are upgrading this website

We are moving from a Microsoft Frontpage based website to something much newer and more flexible, run on our Apple systems. This is a major change and is going on in the background.

Our Windows computer is often difficult to start and we have decided that should it fail, before the new system is live, we will allow a gap of a month or two to occur rather than waste time setting up outdated systems as a temporary measure. So if we go missing for a month or two please check back regularly as we will be back. Hopefully there will be no problem and we will be able, in the near future, to switch over to the new system and as you may have noticed we have been out collecting a vast amount of more information to expand it.

Let's Explain How This Resource Works

Our most popular feature is the monthly diary covering interesting and unusual things on, around the UK, in the two months ahead. Our monthly front page/newsletter, from the beginning, is still available and can be accessed via our 'recent editions' link.

Everything that appears amongst these pages, or ever has, is indexed in a number of ways, alphabetically, by topic, by county, and often linked in to sections. Many of the sections have their own front doorways so people with specific interests have direct access through these doors to their area of interest.

All of our links are coded showing you if it's an external link or one of our own pages and when it is, the type of page it is. A key to the most popular codes is at the bottom of the contents panel on the left and clicking on any of the symbols will bring up a full list. On any page, holding your mouse over one of these symbols tells you what it means.

If this is your first visit, click here to find out how you might best use this site to help you find what you are looking for.
