Autumn Colours  at Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire

October is the month when the British Countryside explodes into full autumn colours. A drive along any country road, or an outing into many of the Woodlands we have will bathe you in glorious colour, just like that in the photograph above of Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire.

Your First Visit
Wildlife Photography In October
October Diary
Fantastic, I love this time for year, its a great chance to get out with our cameras and snap some colourful country landscapes. However you will have to watch what is happening in your local area as there is no set date for this to happen, but as soon as you see it, snap it.

Amongst this resource we have many articles on Autumn Colours  and how you might approach photographing them as well as listings by county of many woodlands that give fabulous autumn displays. Take a look and find one either near you or near where you are visiting over the coming weeks. Don't forget to check out the Wildlife Photography diary for October to see what of the many creatures in our countryside you might come across in the woods, such as the Grey Squirrels and the more colourful Red Squirrels in some woods, or even the rutting Red Deer.

Don't forget at the end of the month we see the end of British Summer Time on the 27th, when we turn our clocks back one hour.

Let's Explain How This Resource Works

One of the most popular features is a monthly diary covering interesting and unusual things on, around the UK, in the two months ahead.

Everything that appears, or ever has, is indexed in a number of ways, alphabetically, by topic, by county, and often linked into sections. Many of the sections have their own front doorways so people with specific interests have direct access through these doors to their area of interest.

Up until July 2012 we also produced a monthly newsletter as apart of this resource, but like magazines going over the years we found it becoming a little repetitive, so decided to concentrate on the resource development and drop the newsletter issues. You can get back to see every newsletter, from the beginning, via our recent editions link.

All of our links are coded showing you if it's an external link or one of our own pages and when it is, the type of page it is. You will find a key to the most popular ones at the bottom of the contents panel on the left and clicking on any of the symbols will bring up a full list. Holding your mouse over one of these symbols tells you what it means.

If this is your first visit, click here to find out how you might best use this site to help you find what you are looking for.
