The small lighthouse at Penninis  was built in 1911 to replace a lighthouse that had been nearby at St Agnes that was originally built in 1680.

Penninis Lighthouse is located at Penninis on St Mary’s Island in the Scilly Isles. It is a small automatic lighthouse consisting of a metal tower, the upper part painted white and the lower part and cupola painted black. The lower part is a lattice work construction which reduces its wind resistance.

Penninis was re-engineered and converted from acetylene gas to electrically powered operation in 1992.
